Overview: As a cold front collides with our hot, juicy and unstable atmosphere, thunderstorms may explode onto the scene this afternoon. As such a severe thunderstorm watch covers the region through 10 p.m. tonight. Hail to two inches in diameter and damaging winds to 70 mph are possible with storms that develop. Storm coverage may be greatest in the northern parts of the region - but storms are possible anywhere. Severe thunderstorm and tornado watches extend all the way up the East Coast to southeast Maine.

SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS ARE EXPECTED TO FORM OVER THE HIGHER TERRAIN OF EASTERN WV/WESTERN VA AND CENTRAL PA...AND SPREAD ACROSS THE WATCH AREA THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING. HIGH CONVECTIVE AVAILABLE POTENTIAL ENERGY VALUES ... COMBINED WITH SUFFICIENT WESTERLY FLOW ALOFT ... WILL POSE A THREAT OF SEVERE STORMS CAPABLE OF LARGE HAIL AND DAMAGING WINDS.
