UPDATE, 4:55 p.m. The National Weather Service confirmed the tornado was on the ground for 2.1 miles and rated it EF-1 intensity.
From 10:00 a.m.: With winds aloft from the south and from the east at ground level, the atmosphere was spinning last night. Perhaps not surprisingly, there were multiple reports of a funnel cloud and tornado northwest of Hagerstown in Maugansville last night around 8:10 p.m. Video, photos and reports seem pretty conclusive a tornado touched down.
The Herald Mail (out of Hagerstown) reports:
Uprooted trees, overturned vehicles, damaged siding and roofs, tossed deck furniture and a trampoline blown into another neighbor’s yard were reported by neighbors and emergency services after the apparent tornado was spotted.
A trained National Weather Service spotter also observed the apparent tornado.
A crew from the National Weather Service will investigate the damage today or Thursday to confirm the tornado occurred and assign it a rating.
