Amy Winehouse — the talented but troubled singer who exploded onto the worldwide music scene with her 2006 album “Back to Black” — has been found dead.

The BBC is reporting that Winehouse’s body was found in her home in the Camden borough of London. A Metropolitan Police spokesman confirmed the death of a 27-year-old woman but did not reveal her identity, the BBC says. The cause of death has not been named.

Winehouse’s reported death comes a month after she canceled a series of gigs following an incoherent performance in Belgrade. The pop star publicly struggled with alcohol and drug problems throughout her brief career; ironically, her biggest hit was the song “Rehab.”

Given those struggles, her death is not necessarily a surprise. But it is terribly sad, and it brings to a tragic conclusion what could and should have been a great musical career.
