Fred Willard arrested on charge of ‘suspicion of committing a lewd act’

Update via TV Column: PBS fired Fred Willard from his job as “Market Warriors” host and narrator. “Given the unfortunate news reported today, effective immediately, Fred Willard no longer will be involved with the ‘Market Warriors’ series,”as a result of this incident,” said a spkesman for WGBH, the Boston-based PBS station that produces the show.

Fred Willard — veteran comedy actor and regular in Christopher Guest movies, including “Best in Show” and “A Mighty Wind” — was arrested Wednesday night on suspicion of committing a lewd act.

Fans of Willard’s work surely cannot hear this news without immediately thinking this:

According to the Associated Press, this is what happened:

L.A. police were doing a routine sweep of an adult movie theater in Hollywood and found Willard, 72, alone and engaging in an unspecified lewd act. (Well, TMZ is a bit more specific about the act. The gossip site also says the incident occurred at the Tiki Theater.) He was arrested on the suspicion of committing a lewd act charge and released overnight.

So far, the actor has not commented on the incident.
