Coachella lineup announced

Kanye West, Arcade Fire, Kings of Leon, the Strokes and Animal Collective are the biggest names on the 2011 lineup for annual Coachella, the three-day mega-concert in the California desert that kicks off festival season in mid-April.

Other big names -- and there are always dozens upon dozens -- include PJ Harvey, the Black Keys, Robyn, Cee Lo, Bright Eyes, Duran Duran, the National, Lauryn Hill, Interpol, Chemical Brothers and Erykah Badu. View the full lineup here.

The much-anticipated announcement always offers a handful of hints as to how the concert year will play out. Big names that haven't been on the road for a while -- such as Kanye West, Animal Collective and the Strokes -- now become headline possibilities for every other festival (including our area's Virgin Mobile FreeFest). Smaller bands that have well-received sets at the festival become acts to watch over the rest of the year. We'll have more on the lineup later today and this week.
