- Last night, if you didn't leave your home to see the awesome
Gordo Brega/UCB
show at Venus like us, you were probably glued to a computer screen, watching one of two things: Kanye West's amazing new video teaser for "Power" (streaming above no longer streaming above since it was crashing everyone's broswer), or the Terry Gilliam-directed Arcade Fire concert webcast from Madison Square Garden. (Was the latter any good? We didn't see, oh, forty-kerjillion tweets about it or anything.) The band plays Merriweather Post Pavilion tonight.
- Sign of the times: Weezer has left major label Geffen Records after 16 years and signed with macro-indie punk label Epitaph.
- The Beach Boys' record label is going after Katy Perry's record label. The beef? Perry's "California Gurls" borrows a few lyrics from the Beach Boys' classic "California Girls." We'd like to take this opportunity to recommend that everyone read "Reality Hunger" by David Shields.
