Merle Haggard cancels tour

By David Malitz

Country legend Merle Haggard, who will receive Kennedy Center Honors in December, has canceled his September tour due to illness. This includes his scheduled performance on Sept. 18 at the Great Frederick Fair and a sold-out Sept. 20 show at the Birchmere. Haggard was diagnosed and treated for lung cancer in 2008.

The Birchmere is attempting to reschedule the show for a later date.
