Singles file: Nicki Minaj, Shakira, Sharon Van Etten

We're still waiting for Nicki Minaj's album but the latest single bodes well. (Courtesy of the artist)

A weekly playlist for the listener with a one-track mind...

Nicki Minaj: "Right Thru Me"

The latest and most promising single from Minaj's long-gestating debut, "Pink Friday," is tender, profane and '80s-nostalgic.

Florence and the Machine: "Dog Days Are Over (Yeasayer remix)"

The best, truest, trippiest remix yet of FATM's behemoth hit.

Shakira featuring El Cata: "Loca"

Shakira gets an assist from Dominican rapper El Cata on the Spanish-language version of this rollicking Pitbull-sound-alike track. Also at the link: an English-language version featuring Dizzee Rascal, slightly off his game.

Sharon Van Etten: "Don't Do It"

The Brooklyn singer-songwriter mopes awesomely on this comparatively upbeat stunner from her sophomore disc, "Epic."

Cake: "Sick of You"

Will Cake ever do anything better than its long-ago cover of "I Will Survive"? It will not. This predictably trumpety new track, Cake's first in six years, is still pretty good, though.
