Earlier this week, human trending topic Justin Bieber announced that he'll be publishing an autobiography. Here at Click Track, we love the Biebs as much as the next pop music blog, but you probably won't find us lining up outside Borders at midnight to purchase a copy of his memoirs. He's 16.
However! As we prepare for late-summer weekends at the beach, we got to thinking: Which pop star's autobiography would we kill to read? (And while the possibilities are endless, could anything top the ridiculous-salaciousness of "Scar Tissue" by Anthony Kiedis?)
In our weekly Taking sides post, Click Track's contributors fantasize about the ultimate pop star autobiographies. Check 'em out after the jump and be sure to share your hopes and dreams in the comments.
Chris Richards: I don't care if he changes all the "you"s to "u"s. I don't care if he changes all the "to"s to "2"s. I don't even care if he changes all the "I"s to that crazy eyeball symbol. Before I leave this Earth, I want to read Prince's autobiography. Has there been a more guarded, mysterious icon in the history of popular music? Meantime, someone tell dude to step his Twitter game up.
Allison Stewart: I would have said Ozzy, but apparently he already put out a bio ("I Am Ozzy," out last January) and nobody noticed. Bruce Springsteen would be my next logical choice, assuming he actually went for it. He tends to hold his image rather closely. At any rate, you know it would be juicier than Dylan's autobio, which was so ephemeral it was practically written in haiku. And Springsteen would have the added advantage of actually remembering things that happened before last week. For a lot of rockers, this isn't always the case.
David Malitz: The obvious answer is: "Chronicles, Vol. 2." If 150 pages about the making of freakin' "Oh, Mercy" was that amazing, I can only imagine what "Highway 61 Revisited"-era stuff would be like. But since I can't answer Dylan to every one of these questions, I'll go with David Bowie. So many phases, so many drugs, so many outfits, so many famous friends. Also, the secrets of "Labrynth"!
