Earlier today the first batch of performers for next month's Grammy Awards were announced. Arcade Fire, Eminem, Cee Lo Green, Lady Gaga, Miranda Lambert and Katy Perry are the first six confirmed for the Feb. 13 awards ceremony. Who will steal the show? We debate.
Chris Richards: I'm still trying to become an Arcade Fire fan. It's not working. Will this be my moment? Will the cameras cutting to Beyonce golf clapping after a (presumed) performance of "The Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)" finally somehow make everything click? Or will I have to wait for Super Bowl halftime, 2012? So many questions.
Allison Stewart: My money's on Cee Lo. Everyone expects Lady Gaga to be amazing -- and it's hard to imagine she wouldn't be -- but she's in the unenviable position Madonna was in in the '90s, where it's getting increasingly difficult for her to top herself.
But everyone loves that Cee Lo song -- everyone. He arrives with plenty of audience goodwill, and little to no expectations that he'll come out with fireworks or dwarves or whatever accompanying spectacle Gaga will have. He doesn't have to do much to come out ahead.
David Malitz: I was going to say Eminem because he might bring out a bunch of guests. But he performed with Lil Wayne and Drake last year and it wasn't anything too special. So that leaves Lady Gaga, who knows exactly what she's doing when it comes to TV spectacle. She knows everyone will tune in to see what she has in store and has probably been planning this performance since last year's show, if not earlier.
