Catholic University of America will host about 1,800 visitors, including a 300-student contingent from Missouri, overnight in preparation for the March For Life, the annual anti-abortion rally scheduled for Friday evening on Capitol Hill.
Three hundred teens from the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau in southern Missouri will board buses for a 24-hour ride to Washington, where they'll sleep on the floor of the Raymond A. DuFour Center at the Brookland campus. They, and 1,500 additional visitors, will bed down at the university and the adjoining Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. CUA has hosted visiting marchers for more than a dozen years, according to a release.
More than 20,000 people are expected at the National Prayer Vigil for Life at the Basilica on Thursday night. Friday morning, more than 400 CUA students are expected to join the march.
The March for Life marks the anniversary of the Supreme Court's 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, which legalized abortion.
