Pedestrian struck in Silver Spring
A pedestrian was struck and injured Saturday morning at Piney Branch Road and Arliss Street in Silver Spring, according to Montgomery County police.
The victim was hit by a dark-colored truck around 8:15 a.m., authorities said. The driver did not stay at the scene, and authorities said they are looking for the vehicle.
The pedestrian was taken to a local trauma center with non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

Police: Herndon woman abducted, raped in Prince William
A Herndon woman visiting an acquaintance in Prince William County was abducted and raped late Thursday, and police are continuing to look for her attacker, according to a Prince William police department news release.
A 31-year-old woman was walking in the area of Maplewood Drive and Peakwood Court in Manassas when an unknown man approached her, displayed a handgun, and forced her into the woods in a secluded area behind a townhome on nearby Vermont Place, police say. He then raped her, police say.
Police are looking for a black, 5-foot-9 man, of medium build, last seen wearing a black puffy winter jacket, dark gray jeans, and a black and white bandana.

Pr. William special education teacher, Shirley Whitfield, charged with assaulting children
A teacher’s assistant at a Prince William County middle school was charged with abusing two students, police said Monday.
Shirley Whitfield, 69, a teacher’s assistant at Beville Middle School in Dale City, allegedly assaulted a 13-year-old girl and 12-year-old boy Thursday, Prince William police said, causing minor injuries. She has been charged with two counts of assault and battery.

Two men arrested in connection with Burke burglaries
Two men were arrested Tuesday in connection with a string of burglaries in the Burke area, according to Fairfax County police.
Andrew Kovch, 27, and Jimmy Le, 23, have been charged with burglary, attempted burglary and grand larceny, police said.
