Man fatally shot, body found in car in Fairfax County
Police in Fairfax County are investigating a homicide in the Mount Vernon area in which a man was found shot inside a car late Wednesday evening.
Officers found the man, who was not immediately identified, suffering from wounds to his upper torso after they responded to a noise complaint at the intersection of San Leandro Place and Mendocina Place around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, police said.
The man was sitting in the driver’s side of a vehicle parked in a marked parking spot near the intersection when he was shot, said Bud Walker, a Fairfax County police spokesman.
He was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead. The man has not been identified, pending notification of next of kin.
The noise complaint was prompted by the engine of the victim’s vehicle revving loudly, Walker said.
“As to what led up to [the shooting], we are still investigating,” Walker said.
There were no signs of a robbery and no arrests have been made in the case, Walker said.
Police said they don’t have any suspects or a motive, but the investigation is ongoing. Walker said more details about the killing could be released later today.

Court to hear appeal in Justin Michael Wolfe’s overturned conviction
RICHMOND, Va. — A federal appeals court is set to hear the case of a Prince William County man whose murder-for-hire conviction was overturned.
The state is appealing a judge’s decision to vacate the conviction of Justin Michael Wolfe, who was sentenced to death for the 2001 slaying of his marijuana supplier, Daniel Petrole. A judge ruled last year that prosecutors suppressed evidence and knowingly used false testimony from the shooter, Owen Barber, who later recanted.

SUV crashes into 3 cars during police pursuit
A SUV crashed into four vehicles Wednesday during a police pursuit through the District and Prince George’s County, officials said.
The SUV stopped only after striking three vehicles: a Toyota, a Cadillac and a limousine bus, on South Dakota Avenue NE near 20th Street, police said. One man inside the SUV was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life threatening, and no other injuries were reported in the crashes, which happened about 6 p.m.
The episode began earlier in the 6th District when D.C. police officers spotted the black Chevy Suburban, which matched the description of a vehicle police had been searching for, said Asst. Chief Al Durham. In recent days police had received reports that a possible police impersonator, driving a similar SUV, was observed on two occasions with emergency lights on, Durham said.
D.C. police followed the Suburban until they reached the District line at Eastern Avenue and Sheriff Road. Officers then relayed a lookout to Prince George’s County police, Durham said. At some point, the SUV struck a vehicle on Route 202 and fled.
County police officers pursued the SUV back into the District until it crashed.
Police took two men into custody, Durham said. No charges were immediately announced.
