Fauquier teacher gets 17 years for filming sex with student

A federal court judge in Alexandria sentenced a former science teacher at a Fauquier County middle school to 210 months in prison Friday for producing child pornography after he filmed himself having sex with a teenage student.

Scott C. Howe, 34, taught at Cedar Lee Middle School in Bealeton. He was found guilty in a bench trial before U.S. District Court Judge Leonie M. Brinkema in March.

Prosecutors said Howe used a video camera to film the student, who was 14 and 15 at the time, engaging in sexual activity alone, with Howe in his classroom or with Howe in his home.

"Scott Howe betrayed the trust a teacher has with a young student and will now spend more than 17 years in prison," U.S. Attorney Neil MacBride said in a news release. "These disgusting videos are a parent's worst nightmare. My office is committed to ensuring sexual predators are caught and unable to victimize others."
