The former chief financial officer of the National Children's Alliance was sentenced Tuesday to one year in prison for stealing from the nonprofit group, which helps child victims of sexual abuse and domestic violence.
Marvin Perry, 45, of Waldorf pleaded guilty in June 2010 to a charge of theft and was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Ricardo M. Urbina of the District.
Urbina also ordered that Perry, who was the group's chief financial officer from September 2001 through March 2008, pay restitution of $64,390.
Since 1995, NCA has received approximately $76 million in federal grants from the Justice Department, U.S. Attorney for the District Ronald C. Machen Jr. and department Inspector General Glenn A. Fine said in announcing the sentence.
Two of Perry's subordinates also pleaded guilty in the embezzlement scheme, which ran from about October 2005 until December 2007.
Sharon Martin was sentenced to serve five years' probation and six months' home detention, and to pay restitution of $15,857. Michael Young received a suspended, 180-day prison sentence and two years' probation, and was ordered to repay $9,479.20.
