Man's body found in Arlington roadway

The body of a middle-aged man was found on 13th Street in Arlington early Tuesday morning, and police are investigating the death as suspicious, authorities said.

Police do not currently know the man's name, and they are waiting for an autopsy to tell them how he died.

The person who found the man just before 3 a.m. near the intersection of 13th Street and North Jackson Street said it appeared he had been stabbed, and police said the man had a "few wounds" and did not appear to be a homeless person left in the cold or a bystander struck in a hit-and-run crash.

"Anytime we find a body in the street, obviously there's a problem," said Detective Crystal Nosal, a spokeswoman for the Arlington County Police Department. "We definitely want the [medical examiner] to look at that before we put any official word out."

Nosal said the man's body was found in the roadway, but not in the middle of the traffic lane.
