A member of the street gang Mara Salvatrucha, or MS-13, was sentenced in federal court in Alexandria on Friday to 20 years in prison in the killing of a pimp in Alexandria last year.
Prosecutors said Claros Luna ran a prostitution operation, and that he and a woman were lured to an apartment building on Manor Road in Alexandria city by Alcides Umana, 23, and two other MS-13 members posing as potential customers. Instead, the three men demanded an extortion payment from Luna in exchange for allowing him to continue his prostitution activities in the area, police said in court papers. But Luna resisted and was shot three times, prosecutors said. The men then robbed Luna and the woman, authorities said.
Umana pleaded guilty in March to aiding and abetting the use of a firearm during a crime of violence resulting in death.
