N.Y. investigating phony nun

The state attorney general's office is investigating a phony nun who dons a habit to beg on the streets of New York.

Mindy LeGrand is part of an unaccredited church based in Brooklyn called St. John's Pentecostal of Crown Heights.

Church founder Devernon LeGrand was convicted of one count of rape and three counts of murder in the 1970s. He died in prison. Mindy LeGrand is related to him by marriage.

The office of Attorney General Andrew Cuomo issued subpoenas Monday. A spokesman for Cuomo said he could not provide details of the ongoing investigation.

No one answered the phone Tuesday at the Brooklyn house, where Legrand and others affiliated with St. John's live.
