One killed, one injured in hit-and-run crash

A 18-year-old Hyattsville man was killed and a 32-year-old man injured early Tuesday morning in a hit-and-run crash in the Capitol Heights area, police said.

The two men were on a motorized scooter driving west on Central Avenue when they were struck from behind near the intersection of West Hampton Avenue, said Cpl. Evan Baxter, a Prince George’s County police spokesman. The scooter’s driver, 18-year-old Roberto Reyes, of Hyattsville, was killed, and the passenger, a 32-year-old Hyattsville man, was seriously injured, Baxter said. Both were thrown from the scooter during the crash, Baxter said.

Baxter said the vehicle that struck the scooter fled the scene. The crash occurred about 1:15 a.m.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Prince George’s County Police Department’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit at (301) 731-4422.
