A D.C. taxi driver named Vincent Gray was sentenced in federal court to 30 days in jail for failing to file tax returns, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Gray, 66, who has the same name as the District's new mayor, pleaded guilty in October to failing to file federal and D.C. returns from 2004 through 2006. There is no relation between the men, a mayoral spokeswoman said.
As part of his plea agreement, Gray agreed to pay $34,572 in back taxes to the Internal Revenue Service. He was also sentenced to five months of community confinement, the specifics of which were not detailed in a press release.
He did not file any tax returns during those three years. His income in 2004 was $38,723; in 2005 it was $67,372; and he earned $52,763 in 2006, officials said.
Gray had not filed a timely income tax return since the 1992 tax year.
