Authorities say a U.S. Postal Service worker in Virginia has been charged with stealing mail she thought might contain gift cards.
The U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General says more than 100 pieces of mail were found inside the home of Alva D. Jackson, a mail carrier in Arlington. The story was first reported in The Washington Examiner.
Jackson allegedly stole as many as 10 to 20 letters a week from the Arlington Main Post Office during busy holiday seasons between October 2008 and March 2010.
According to an affidavit filed in the U.S. District Court in Alexandria, she stole and used gift cards at Target, Macy's, Best Buy, Wal-Mart and several restaurants.
An estimated value has not been placed on the stolen mail.
