The Indianapolis Colts can now officially start the post-Peyton Manning era.
No. 1 overall draft pick Andrew Luck signed a fully-guaranteed four-year contract worth $22 million on Thursday afternoon.
Naturally, Colts general manager Jim Irsay was giddy. He tweeted a photo of Luck signing and wrote “12 is officially signed!!!!!!”
The Indianapolis Star reported the deal also includes a $14.5 million signing bonus and a fifth-year team option.
The signing comes one day after the Washington Redskins locked up their franchise quarterback and second overall draft choice Robert Griffin III. Griffin’s four-year deal is worth $21.1 million and is also fully guaranteed.
Luck’s deal is nearly on par with the one Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton received as the No. 1 pick in 2011 — $22.05 million guaranteed with a $14.5 million signing bonus.
The Colts are holding a three-day rookie training camp starting Wednesday, ahead of their team-wide training camp that begins Saturday.
