America Eats: Sustainable Agriculture

In 2006, Charles J. Shields garnered attention for his best-selling biography of “To Kill a Mockingbird” author Harper Lee. He comes to Politics & Prose to discuss his newest project, a biography of Kurt Vonnegut, which was released in early November.

Wednesday

Verdehr Trio

The trio — comprising violin, cello and piano — performs works by Daugherty, Hovhaness, Menotti, Rorem and Winkler. The show is in conjunction with the museum’s “Warhol: Headlines” exhibit.

Thursday

Daryl Davis Band

Millennium Stage has several notable performances this week. But if you’re looking for a way to work off that Thanksgiving turkey dinner, grab your dancing shoes and get out to this performance by the Daryl Davis Band. Take the free dance lessons provided by Gottaswing before each set to learn some new moves.

Friday

National Harbor Tree Lighting

If you don’t end up with tickets to the National Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony on Dec. 1, consider heading to National Harbor a few days before. The event features a 7 p.m. light show choreographed to performances by Washington’s Big Band and the Radio King Orchestra. Then, at 8 p.m., the tree is lit and the Potomac erupts with a grand finale fireworks show.

Document the Fresh Closing Party

This reception is your last chance to see the gallery’s show of music and style photography by female photographers Rosina “Teri” Memolo, Dafna Steinberg and Vickey Ford. There will also be a DJ and cash bar.

Sunday

Steven Gellman and Project Natale

Looking to get your “Jingle Bells” on? Acoustic folk singer Steven Gellman performs a set of holiday tunes at 2 p.m. in Alexandria’s Market Square, followed by a jazzier set by the group Project Natale at 3 p.m.
