Most of Washington’s big costume contests and Halloween parties took place on Friday and Saturday nights, but there are still chances to don your favorite outfit and celebrate the holiday tonight.
Napoleon and the Alliance Francaise are teaming up again for their annual Halloween in Paris party. The night begins with an Absinthe-themed happy hour in Napoleon’s upstairs bar from 8 to 10 p.m. Magicians, caricaturists and poetry will be featured alongside Absinthe cocktails. After 10, DJs Chris Burns and Benoit Harber spin in the basement champagne lounge. The “Most French” costume wins a set of French language courses at the Alliance; the scariest costume wins a bottle of champagne.
Thievery Corporation’s Eric Hilton is DJing at the Brixton’s Halloween party, which features costume and pumpkin carving contests, scary black-and-white movies on all TV screens, and $6 imperial pints of Carlsberg lager.
Kostume Karaoke already requires singers to play dress up, using a closet full of wigs, hats, capes and other props. But on Halloween, the bi-weekly event at Solly’s is encouraging participants to bring their own outfit to wear while belting out favorite songs. The best costume takes home a Nook eReader and wins a $50 bar tab. Second place receives a $20 tab, and third place wins a round of shots. (Be advised that your performance will be taken into account.) Karaoke gets underway at 8 p.m.; you must arrive by 10 to participate in the contest.
The Uptown Tap House is going for a retro vibe at its Rat Park Halloween Party . The Satin Doll Trio performs swingin’ songs by Frank Sinatara, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. Bartenders sling $5 martinis, Manhattans, Old Fashioneds and Scotch and sodas all night. A $100 prize will be given to the best Frank Sinatra and Marilyn Monroe costumes.
Ozzy Osbourne and Michael Jackson are doing battle on 14th Street NW tonight. Cafe Saint-Ex is Ozzy HQ, with heavy metal and hard rock blasting all night, $7 Ozzy-inspired cocktails, and a $50 prize for the best Ozzy, Sharon, Jack or Kelly costume. Down the block, Bar Pilar is turning on its fog machine to create a creepy “Thriller” atmosphere while playing Michael Jackson hits and other ‘80s pop. Halloween cocktails, such as the Graveyard Punch, are $7. The best Michael Jackson-inspired outfit wins $50.
DJs Matt Bailer and Shea Van Horn are bringing their awesome Mixtape dance night to the Howard Theatre for a special costume party. Get in the mood with a new Mixtape mix featuring Holy Ghost and Mike.
Meridian Pint is saying farewell to October with its last three kegs of pumpkin beer: Schlafly Pumpkin, Southern Tier Pumking and Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin ale. (The Schlafly is the gem of that trio.)
And in what should be one of the weirdest Halloween parties around, Mini Kiss is performing at the Maryland Live! casino’s All Hallows Live out at Arundel Mills. The late-night costume contest features trophies and $500 in slot machine credits for the Funniest, Most Creative, Scariest, Sexiest and Worst costumes. The best overall outfit takes home $1,500 in cash. Just have your makeup ready: Customers are forbidden from wearing masks in the casino.
