Announcing the 2012 Kid’s Room Contest

The annual back-to-school issue is a favorite of the Local Living staff. Each summer, we brainstorm topics that are useful to parents and compile a package that we hope is both engaging and comprehensive.

But we like to have a little fun with the issue, so last year we launched a contest that invited parents to submit photos of their children’s smartly designed rooms. And what a treat it was.

Our winner, Krista Salmon of Ashburn, was the No. 1 pick of our judges and readers who participated in the online poll. She created a lively, beautiful space for her then-2-year-old daughter Anna Louise with a custom chandelier and floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, all for an impressive $1,344.

Think your child’s room is clever and inspiring? Send in five high-resolution photos by Oct. 1 for a chance to win a $100 American Express gift card and be featured in Local Living. The only criteria are that the room belong to a child and not have been decorated by a professional.

For more details, including all contest rules, visit www.washingtonpost.com/kidsroomcontest.
