Two fresh-shaven alpacas stand in a field at Alpaca-Land farm in Goeming in the Austrian province of Salzburg. The annual shearing is done in the spring to make the animals more comfortable for the summer months. It also will give them plenty of time to grow a thick new coat before winter.

A rhino and her calf walk at dusk in Pilanesberg National Park in South Africa's North West Province. Elephant and rhino poaching is surging, conservationists say, driven by the growing purchasing power of the region's newly affluent classes. In South Africa, nearly two rhinos a day are being killed to meet demand for the animal's horn, which is worth more than its weight in gold.

Villagers stand near a female elephant that died near a palm oil plantation in Krueng Ayon village in Indonesia’s Aceh province. The villagers believe that unidentified people poisoned the wild elephant because it often caused damage to palm oil plantations. In a statement, the Natural Resources Conservation Center said the number of wild elephants in Aceh is decreasing because of forest land being cleared for plantations and mines.
