Virunga National Park rangers follow Dodi, a 2-year-old bloodhound, during a search-and-rescue exercise in the park, about 28 miles north of Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo. Three bloodhounds are used in the park for search and rescue as well as for tracking poachers. The past four months have brought some of the worst violence in years to Congo, forcing about 280,000 people to abandon their homes as the rebels have taken control of a huge swath of the country.

The shelter is at capacity and is offering a $25 adoption special for all dogs 25 pounds or more. For the month of August, all cats are "name your own price" and kitten adoptions are $50.
