Endorsements that Romney, Obama may not want

It’s endorsement time in the 2012 presidential race. But here are a few that President Obama and Mitt Romney may not have wanted.

Honey Boo Boo — Obama

She's 7 years old, but beauty pageant regular and TLC reality show star Alana "Honey Boo Boo" Thompson came out for "Marack Obama" on the Oct. 12 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live. Then she stuck her hand in a glass of water.

Lindsay Lohan — Romney

No "Mean Girls” jokes. Often-troubled actress Lindsay Lohan said on Oct. 12 that she endorsed Romney for president, declaring that ''unemployment is very important for now.''

Hugo Chavez — Obama

"I hope this doesn't harm Obama,'' the Venezuelan strongman said on Sept. 30, "but if I were from the United States, I'd vote for Obama.'' The socialist president added that if Obama were Venezuelan, he'd expect to have his vote, too. (At left, a mural depicting Chavez in Caracas.)

Jenna Jameson — Romney

The former porn star and author made her endorsement at a San Francisco strip club. "When you're rich, you want a Republican in office.''

Ron Jeremy — Obama

Romney does not have a corner on the porn endorsements. Ron "The Hedgehog'' Jeremy, with more than 2,000 adult film credits, endorsed the president in July, the Boston Herald reported. But Jeremy also said nice things about Romney, such as: "The fact that he's such an amazing father proves a lot.''

Sheriff Joe Arpaio — Romney

The tough-on-crime sheriff of Arizona's Maricopa County, known for his hostile comments on immigrants, says Romney's stand on immigration is similar to his. Unclear how many Latino votes that wins for Romney.

Mariah Carey — Obama

This may be one time-consuming endorsement. After Mariah Carey voiced her support for Obama, the singer got into a public feud with fellow "American Idol'' judge Nicki Minaj (yes, of the possibly satirical pro-Romney rap earlier this year). On Oct. 15, Obama addressed the topic in a call-in radio interview, saying, "I think they will work it out.''

Ted Nugent — Romney

Maybe it was the way the ’70s rocker explained his endorsement before the National Rifle Association in April. He began by calling the president and members of the administration criminals: "If Barack Obama becomes the president in November again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year. . . . We need to ride into that battlefield and chop their heads off in November.''

Vladimir Putin — Obama (sort of)

In September, the Russian president said Obama's reelection could improve U.S. relations with his country, adding that Obama was a genuine person who "really wants to change much for the better.'' But Putin also said he could work with Romney, dismissing the GOP candidate's tough talk about Russia as ''pre-election rhetoric.'' (At left, Putin hunting during a 2007 vacation).

Jimmy Carter — Obama

The former president's endorsement came in a video at the Democratic National Convention, but he's not doing frequent duets on the road with Obama. The Romney camp has been trying to paint Obama as a current-era Carter, while characterizing the Georgia Democrat as one-term leader who was inept as a president.

Bonus Endorser: Randy “Duke” Cunningham — Newt Gingrich earlier in the race

The former Republican congressman from California makes this because of the locale of his endorsement: prison. Cunningham, serving time after pleading guilty to taking $2.4 million in bribes, came out for Newt Gingrich in the GOP primaries.
